2024-12-29 | Better than most with room for improvement. Its hard to read outdoors because it's black and white with whisper thin lines and tiny text (would be nice if text could magnify). The field is view doesn't precisely line up with what the eye sees. You have to try to first find a peak you can match up then go from there. My biggest criticism is that the silhouettes of the peaks are a bit lacking in detail so for example clearly jagged peaks look quite rounded in the app making them harder to ID.
2024-12-14 | Never finds the peaks you point it at. It tells you that mountains that are south of you are the ones you know to be north of you. Only shows you giant peaks dozens of miles away instead of the names of peaks that are right in front of you. Always needs a huge update every time you open it. I paid for premium some time ago thinking I'd use the heck out of it on my many hiking weekends all around SoCal, yet it disappoints nearly every time I want it to do the cool things it is supposed to do.
2024-11-30 | My favorite "overlay mountain names camera" app, of the several I have tried. The automatic alignment doesn't work quite as well as manual, and it is quite the battery hog. But great visual design, good offline support, and extremely fun to use!
2024-11-02 | Awesome. I love this app to death, I mostly make use of the default white mode, for me the photo mode is just finicky but I definitely think that could be my older phones compass' problem. Still easy and cool to take a picture and then line up the labels. The UI is awesome and the features are great. I also love the sun and moon tracking.
2024-09-20 | This is useless application, i tried to use it in India, it downloaded the location data but it was not able to show the peak names properly. Also the overall interface is very poor, wasted my money. I am still looking for a usable peak finder application for Android.
2024-09-14 | Great app. Here's a feature idea. I mostly use this on my photos in post process, where there is often not enough room above the peaks for your labels. It would be ready handy if PeakFinder had the option to change the canvas size of the photo to make enough room for the labels above the peaks. And you could add styles of the transformation into a color of choice (black line, gradient, ai generated sky etc.). It would be especially useful since even apps like PS can't change canvas size. Thanks
2024-09-11 | Great concept, though execution leaves much to be desired. Doesn't orient correctly, so you have to know what peaks you're looking at in order to figure out what peaks you're looking at -- which defeats the entire purpose of the app. This is a major flaw and therefore not worth the price of admission. Wish I could get a refund. Running on Google Pixel 7 Pro and this is the only app using GPS that can't orient itself correctly.
2024-08-16 | This app is amazing. Beautifully rendered, 3D views (change the viewing angle), lots and lots of mountains listed. It's as accurate as your phone's compass can be when you hold it up rather than flat. I have no idea why anyone would complain about any aspect of this app, it's solid as a rock and does exactly what the description says it does. Definitely 5 stars.
2024-04-21 | I've used this app for years and it suddenly stopped working. I contacted the developer on a Sunday afternoon, not expecting a response until at best the following Monday. The developer actually responded within 2 hours and gave me the fix for the problem. Uncommonly good service. By the way, for all those times you're asking what mountain or hill is that, this is the app to use. It's incredible.
2023-10-23 | Updated Review: been using this app for years. It's pretty good, I live in the southern Appalachians and oftentimes it will identify minor peaks rather than the name the larger mountain is known by, but it does a really good job at landscape generation and after you set your elevation you're able to see everything you might be interested to know. I was dismayed to see that it did not work on my new pixel 8, however the developer immediately addressed the bug and it's doing great. Thank you! |
