2024-08-16 | I use this for learning auditions and weekly scene work in a class. It's okay but not great. But all the other line learner apps (at least for Android) are way worse. It has some trouble importing sides, especially when there are things in the margins like, "Sides by Breakdown Services - Actors Access" and Start/End marks. I like the computerized voices because it keeps me from expecting the same voice and read when I do the scene.
2024-06-27 | This is an updated review. Back when I used this in 2018 I found the app decent, now it's completely unusable, both on android and Apple. It won't allow me to record using my own voice on my iPhone so I grabbed my old android instead and if I stop recording and try togoback to finish reading the script it doesn't allow me to record my voice at all. Writing it out is not an option with a large script. Waste of money.
2024-06-08 | This helped me so much! Timed playback, prompts, PDF upload, rehearsal sections...and this is just the free version. I was able to take a picture of my script, copy the text from the picture, paste the text to a word doc, and print that as a PDF to upload into the app. After a few edits of the lines, rehearsing was a breeze. The voice is robotic, and I don't know if the paid version offers different voices, but it worked out well for me.
2024-02-01 | I would say it's a fantastic app. The only shortcomings are that it would be great to be able to insert audio files that were recorded elsewhere. It would make rehearsing for musicals so much better. Failing that, it would be nice to be able to raise or lower the volume of the lines you self tape after you've recorded them. To much of the time, even at volume 1 recording, your self taped lines are 3 times the volume of the robot voices. Now all that being said, the program is fantastic!
2023-12-11 | Great app for learning lines. It is unfortunate that some pdf versions of scripts are bad photocopies so importing them into the app is not possible. It is a little clunky typing in every line when that happens. Importing is also not perfect, so prepair to make edits when it gets confused on whose line is whose. Overall though it is a great way to rehearse and just keep yourself fresh after learning. I would run through all my scenes while driving to the theater.
2023-09-27 | LOVE THIS APP ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ There are many ways to use it, depending on where you are with the line memorization. First, I recorded all my own lines and listened to the play over and over. As we rehearsed and I changed the tone I easily updated my recordings to match. I like that you can hear only your lines by playing from the record page! Playing the audio and having it pause for my lines is my favorite feature. Then it can simply move on to the next character, or repeat your line. I'm so grateful!
2023-09-08 | Fix: internal stage directions (in a line, separated by parentheses) are read in the same voice as the character of that line (confusing) Add: the ability to start line audio at a selected point in line *beyond tapping the cue button repeatedly*. Suggestion - have push-and-hold option for cue that highlights it up to the point you want hear the speech from. Yes, you can break up the line. That's not always helpful or convenient.
2023-06-27 | It's good, for a very short list of things. There are many features that either don't work (or are poorly explained). But, if all you are looking for is an app to read you lines in a robotic voice, and wait for you to press a button confirming you said your line, this app is good. Anything beyond that, find another app. It is free though, so you can't be too picky. It does have a bug where sometimes when you close the app, the audio will continue playing until you re-open and pause it manually.
2023-06-03 | This app has very useful features and helped me learn some lines quickly. Once you get the hang of it, it works well, with a couple rough edges. This app exceeded expectations, does what it says & more. It deserves five stars and anyone learning lines or working on a script should try it out. There is a generous free trial period with no sign up. The GUI is a clunky and raw. Not a fan of the icons. Bluetooth playback controls buggy yet, will start reading if you disconnect and turn off phone.
2023-03-16 | I was an earlier adopter of this app, and used it for approximately 6 years before it rolled some of its features into a pro, paid version. I didn't hesitate to fork over the cash. Over half a decade of being able to use it for free, and a flat fee of $40 (at the time) for a lifetime subscription? The app paid for itself a long time ago, over 6 years of free use, every time I didn't go up in performance as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for continuing to help me through after all this time. |
