2025-01-31 | Have been experiencing a bug for months where no matter how I've tried, I am no longer receiving push notifications for my groups. I suspected it was because the app asks me to sign in each time, but there is no option to remain signed in. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and now I can't log in despite logging in fine from the website.
2025-01-28 | This app was great for many years, but it's a dead app now due to all the changes over the past year. It's ridiculous how many little things have been moved behind a pay wall. You get constant pop-ups asking to pay for basic functionality. The cost to be an event host has increased excessively. All my groups have left the app for Facebook groups instead. Only expensive virtual events show up now from sketchy online companies. It's become useless with no local groups or members.
2025-01-28 | It was a great app until they started charging for it. I paid for the membership for a couple of months but it wasn't worth it. It seems like they're trying to become a social media app when they're much better off helping people "meet-up" in person. Lots of the groups seem defunct but luckily I found and joined a very active and great group. I've gone to many events and made lots of new friends. The app is definitely worth a try.
2025-01-27 | Easy stuff needs to be updated. On Android, in order to enter your birthdate, the only way is to click through every single month from 2007 until back when dirt was new. This was a problem that got solved on other apps five years ago. Act like you care, please. Other frustrations ensue, but the really simply stuff shows how little effort the owners and devs put it.
2025-01-23 | Very deceptive ads. After I selected an event that I was interested in, the same screen shared this text " thank you for signing up: Check if you're pre-approved. Find out if you're pre-approved for a Capital One credit card with no credit score impact. Click the offer to view rates and fees on Capital One's website." with a Submit Application button at the bottom. I almost selected this thinking I had to apply to attend the event before reading further. Very desperate and intrusive.
2025-01-18 | The app does not let me log in. I enter the username and password and then it pops me back to the sign up or in page, the beginning. Update: The app has somehow gotten worse. There is missing past events and you can't see the attendees. Lost functionality, gained obnoxious, money-grabbing pop-ups everytime you try to click something. Hopefully an alternative app comes along soon.
2025-01-15 | Update 01/2025: going to the group page no longer shows "about this group." It's just a tiny arrow to open the section. Going to an event, the same thing happens with the description. Leading to unnecessary questions, or unprepared event participants. OP: I've tried to be patient through the changes, but this app is barely functional. Comments cannot be replied to; the map just puts in whatever address it wants. And I'm paying to organize so that the app can get my members lost. Top notch.
2025-01-12 | It used to be good a few years ago. It's stupidly expensive now for what it does and getting worse with basic functionality being paywalled. I cancelled my sub and moved to FB groups as the cost of being an oeganiser was too high. UX also seems to have gotten worse, and it is hard to find things. If this was a startup, it would go nowhere, they rely on market share to stay in business.
2025-01-10 | I was charged for a standard organizer account subscription, but for 3 days since, I was unable to use the account to do anything I paid for it to do or to get actual help from an actual human being. When I go to google pay or my subscription page in the app settings, it says, "confirm plan" - so I search the help section for how to "confirm plan" and see nothing for 3 pages before giving up. Then with no word of explanation they just issue me a refund without trying to fix the problem.
2025-01-10 | This app is now just a backup for me for finding events to attend. The UI hasn't ever been great. But it didn't need to be. Now paywalling key features? I don't get enough value from Meetup to pay for it. Now, every time I open the app, I get closer to just deleting my account. Good job! Additionally, I can't even navigate the desktop site without getting stuck at a pop-up that won't let me leave without subscribing or closing the window completely. But supply and demand. Hope there's demand. |
