2025-01-08 | Wonderful app. If you JUST need an audiobook player that isn't tied to a specific ecosystem like Audible or Google (annoyingly hard to find), this is well worth the asking price. Im so glad I took the plunge on this Edit: went back to audible for a book, and I sorely missed this app. Def my go to audiobook app from now on. Ive listened to 3 different books, and a couple of podcasts on here. All I gotta do is move the files to my phone and im golden.
2024-11-13 | Used to work perfectly but lately it's been buggy. Sleep timer often doesn't work and the book will continue playing for hours. The audio gets quieter when fast forwarding or rewinding in the media session widget. If it wasn't for these bugs it would be perfect.
2024-02-25 | First off, I've been using the Listen Audiobook Player for years and I love it. Best player out there and I've tried them all. Great job! Now for some suggestions on the few minor things that frustrate me :) 1. Please provide more flexibility in the library list view. Audiobooks can have tags that are needed to easily find the books in large libraries. I would like to be able to a) reduce/change the font size in the list, b) add certain tags to the list view (series, author/artist).
2024-02-20 | Stay awake feature must be constantly re-enabled. You can tell the app to make the phone stay awake so the screen doesn't turn off, but that only lasts until you close or minimize the app. If you switch over to another app while listening, then switch back, it has to be turned back on. The fact that I can't be left on permanently is incredibly frustrating.
2023-11-07 | EDIT2: Thanks for the quick fix! Perfect. EDIT: UI changes are very disappointing, forcing a portion of the screen to be taken up by controls unlike the previous drawer. Should be customizable. I've listened to 500+ audiobooks using this app over the past few years, and will continue to until competing apps provide the same baseline features this app does. Function over form for me, baby! That's why I use Android to begin with...
2023-10-20 | I have been using this app for over 8 years at this point, and I'm still a big fan. However, I'd like to ask the author if it would be possible to upgrade the Android Auto mode to include a Library mode where I can browse my books by Author - I have long running shows (>200 episodes per show) that I like to listen to and if I have even a fraction of my episodes (>5000 in total) on my phone, selecting anything in the car is almost impossible (besides "newly added").
2023-02-19 | I have used this app every single day for the past ~5 years, it has all of the features I absolutely need in an audiobook player. I do wish it had some sort of integration with Goodreads, so books that are on my shelf get marked "read" when I complete an audiobook- but I dont even know if a feature like that is possible.
2023-02-04 | Update: Great chapters feature working well. Still like it better than Audible. ☺ Great flexible options for pause/rewind on events, pause vs not for short audio events like GPS navigation prompts cutting in. Supports opus (which is great for quality at small file size. Cross device position sync via Dropbox works nicely too. Cheers to the dev, Thanks.
2022-09-27 | A full-featured audiobook player. One of the few pieces of *non*-open source software I have on my device. (The open source audiobook player choices are more limited. If you have very basic needs, then the open source Voice is probably ok.) The other (non-open source) audiobook player which seems good is Smart AudioBook Player, which I also like a lot. Where Listen has a definite edge is that not only does it play Opus, but it knows how to interpret *chaptered* Opus files.
2022-01-17 | Latest update just broke this app for me. It won't let me use the audiobook folder I've been using for years. And no explanation for what changed or why. Update: Since I first started using Listen years ago, I have been using a folder I created for my audiobooks. A few days after I left the above review, the app started working again. Still annoyed that there was no explanation in the app, and no error message explaining what needed to be done. Otherwise, still a great app. |
