MIDI Scope is praised for its simplicity and effectiveness in diagnosing MIDI device issues across various devices. Users find it reliable for monitoring MIDI messages, aiding in troubleshooting. However, multiple reviews highlight the absence of filtering capabilities for clock/timing messages, resulting in a cluttered interface. The small buffer size and lack of instructional material also detract from user experience. Some users report difficulties detecting Bluetooth MIDI devices, especially on certain Android versions. Overall, it's a useful diagnostic tool with room for improvements in usability and message filtering.

2024-06-22 | Doesn't work. I have a midi device connected via bluetooth. When I send a message, nothing appears on the screen.
2023-05-09 | It seems that Android 13 had serious issues with MIDI but all is well now: the app does what I expect.
2023-02-19 | This app doesn't show any Bluetooth midi devices. It has no help files or useful instructions. It was useless.
2023-02-09 | It does what's advertised but it's kinda useless with my Yamaha P-45 because of never-ending "TimingClock()" messages. So whenever I actually do something on the piano, the corresponding message leaves the screen in just 0.4 seconds. A filter would be nice. And a copy/save function for the log.
2022-06-03 | This is the best tool for the job. So simple and easy to use. A useful window into the workings of my midi setup. It's now very easy to diagnose any issues I experience with just a quick look at the midi messages. I use it most to check my controler cc messages are assigned to the correct values and channels.
2022-02-25 | Does what is claims
2021-08-07 | Great midi diagnostics tool.
2020-05-08 | Connected to a yamaha dtx-502. The scope seems to show midi messages, but the display gets swamped with clock messages. Also the buffer is small. I don't see a way to ignore or filter out the clock messages so its not useful for my purposes.
2020-05-04 | Works fine with Roland FP-10. If you have an Android 10+ device you should try to enable location access in your phone settings and scan again for a device
2020-04-21 | This application helped me diagnose what appeared to be a problem with my new irig midi 2 device as it had a permanently flashing midi in light when connecting either of my aging keyboards to my smartphone or ipad. Suspecting that a message probably was being persistently sent I searched for a midi message logger and after a couple of duff apps, I came across this one. Within seconds I discovered the Active Sensing message is the culprit due to the early implementation of the midi spec! |
