User reviews
Users commonly report that while the Iridium Go device is solid, the Android app is plagued with bugs such as crashing, connectivity issues, and poor message handling, especially on various devices. Many users find the app unreliable and difficult to use, with problems persistently reported over time. However, some note that after initial learning, the app can function smoothly, especially on certain Android versions. Overall, the app requires significant improvement to ensure dependable satellite communication, critical for users relying on it in remote or dangerous environments.
Pros
- App works smoothly on some Android versions (e.g., Android 9.1.0).
- Simple once learned and easy to use after familiarization.
- Iridium Go device itself is a good and expensive product, serving satellite communication needs.
- App allows calling and texting reliably when it connects.
Cons
- App is extremely buggy and prone to crashing especially on Android devices like Samsung S9 and Pixel 3.
- Frequent issues connecting to the Iridium Go device without workarounds like airplane mode usage.
- Unreliable message handling: receiving duplicate texts, messages missing or with corrupted characters, messages difficult to organize.
- Poor user interface and user experience leading to difficulty in navigating app functions (e.g., no back button from dial screen).
- Connectivity is unstable causing frustration and potential safety risks, especially in extreme or offshore conditions.
Recent reviews
Unbelievably buggy. As others have said, simple things such as returning from the dial screen doesn't work. As a premium service, I'd expect better. But with next to no competition, this is what we have. I'm sure many of us are eagerly awaiting Starlink Direct2Cell.

I have had such hit and miss luck with Iridium. I'm very disappointed. Even when we do have enough satellites to connect, I can't "communicate" with iridium with my android phone... though my husband might be able to on his iPhone. For the price, I expected way more.
