It significantly improves media experience by enabling remote control from a distance. Common issues include setup and browsing inconsistencies on Windows 11, missing advanced playback features like playlist history, and some notification control problems. Users appreciate the responsive developer support and value the app's functionality despite minor shortcomings.
Pros
- Simple and intuitive setup, allowing quick connection between the app and VLC on the PC.
- Effective remote control features including playback control, subtitles, audio settings, and browsing media files from the phone.
- Reliable and consistent performance when controlling VLC, especially on Windows 10 and Linux/Ubuntu systems.
- The app enhances media experience by enabling convenient control from a distance, making it easy to manage media playback without physical interaction.
- Good developer support and responsiveness to technical queries, with an overall well-designed user interface.
Cons
- Inconsistent performance or setup issues on Windows 11 machines, especially with browsing network shared locations.
- The app lacks some advanced features such as playlist history, remembering last played content in browse folders, and ability to auto-set subtitles and audio for series.
- Notification controls (quick controls) remain in the notification bar even after closing the app, requiring force stop to remove.
- Differences in UI and pricing model between Android and iPhone versions cause some user confusion or dissatisfaction.
- Limited access to some VLC settings and missing 'choose renderer' feature, which is important for streaming to Chromecast devices.

This app is pretty good for a 2011 release. However now it's a relic. 1. It lacks a playlist history 2. Lacks the ability to remember what was last played in the browse folder 3. Why does the iPhone and Android UI look different 4. Why does the iPhone have a monthly subscription and Android is a 1 time payment? 5. Have the ability to auto-set subtitles & audio for a series. If I don't see an improvement on these notes. Ill make an a worthy of a 2024 release and I'll open source it.

Absolute rubbish. Will not connect to vlc on a remote Linux system. The earlier incarnation of this app worked flawlessly. I can't believe I paid money for this! The help webpage is a complete joke and the support is non existent. Do yourself a favour and avoid.
