User reviews
Users appreciate the Elgato Control Center app's clean interface and good hardware lighting quality. However, the app suffers from frequent disconnections and an unreliable setup process, particularly with Wi-Fi detection limitations and connectivity failures. Users also find the lack of manual configuration options and advanced features like presets or smart home integration frustrating. Consistent connectivity and usability problems significantly undermine user experience, leading to repeated attempts to connect devices and, in some cases, device returns.
Pros
- Hardware works well and the lighting quality is appreciated by users.
- The user interface is relatively clean and straightforward once set up successfully.
- The app allows firmware updates and configuration of lighting devices.
- Setup can be achieved by following in-app instructions with some persistence.
- The app allows control of lighting devices remotely over Wi-Fi once connected.
Cons
- Frequent and consistent connectivity issues with devices losing connection even on stable Wi-Fi.
- The setup process is cumbersome, slow, and often fails to detect Wi-Fi networks properly, limiting network selection to about 10 visible SSIDs.
- Lack of manual controls such as entering static IP addresses or Wi-Fi network names manually, reducing flexibility.
- The app lacks useful features like presets, saved lighting profiles, or integration with smart home systems, requiring manual adjustments every time.
- Wi-Fi connectivity handling issues, including disconnecting phone Wi-Fi during setup and failure to reconnect automatically, causing user frustration.
Recent reviews
After a bit of futzing around with the settings, downloading and installing firmware updates and restarting the app (as well as my mobile device for good measure) got both of our Elgato Keylight Air units synchronized and operating like a charm. The set-up process is pretty straightforward so just stick to the in-app procedure. When in doubt, restart the app and/or your device and they may solve whatever the problem might be.

The application UI is relatively clean. The problem is that lights will typically lose connection even in a stable Wi-Fi environment. when that happens the application gives almost no useful tools for manually connecting to lights or addressing the problem outside of manually repairing every light. And even this solution doesn't actually work consistently leading to many situations where the lights are simply not accessible.
