User reviews
Intercom for Android is praised for its ease of use, reliable local network connectivity, and effective walkie-talkie functionality. Users appreciate the simple interface and no-need-for-internet design. However, it suffers from battery drainage, connection dropouts especially across rooms or calls, audio routing problems causing echo and speaker-only playback, noticeable transmission delays, and background volume control limitations. Despite these drawbacks, it is considered one of the better intercom apps available, especially for local communication without data requirement.
Pros
- Works well as a free walkie-talkie app connecting multiple phones.
- Simple and intuitive user interface without unnecessary features.
- Good connectivity over local networks like WiFi, Bluetooth, and hotspots.
- Allows communication without internet or login, useful for local events and activities.
- Supports voice activation and works well with Bluetooth headsets and earbuds.
Cons
- App drains battery heavily when open and running, especially when using WiFi hotspot.
- Connection reliability issues: loses connection when phones move to different rooms or upon incoming/outgoing calls, requiring manual app restart.
- Audio playback defaults to phone speakers and doesn't automatically switch to earpieces or headsets, causing echo and discomfort.
- Delay in voice transmission can be significant (up to 10-20 seconds), affecting real-time communication.
- Volume control issues when app runs in background, disabling normal volume button functionality.
Recent reviews
The phones pair directly with each other. I've tried this with two and three phones connected simultaneously. It works well, especially with earbuds. There is a small delay between messages, but if you essentially need a free walkie-talkie app then this is perfect.

It is true intercom, the interface is simple yet well built, no connection dropouts in distances even extending Bluetooths certifications, the wifi and hotspot options work excellently, overall a very good tool
